Stacey Oliver, Founder

the beginning

From the time she was in elementary school, our founder Stacey knew she wanted to work in fashion. Her mother and grandmothers taught her to sew, crochet, knit and embroider from a young age, and she and her best friend Sofia used to put on fashion shows for their parents. When she graduated from high shool, she wanted to go to design school but could not reconcile pursuing a degree in an industry that is so toxic to society (predominantly women) and so bad for the environment. She decided to attend the University of Washington, where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish. Several years later her dream of working in fashion crept up again, only this time it brought new promise along with it. Stacey was introduced to the small yet quickly growing industry of sustainable fashion. This was a perfect match for her as it married her desire to care for the planet with her dream of working in fashion. She decided to study at The New School where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Strategic Design and Management. Though her degree was not directly in fashion, she was able to utilize her skills and expertise when crafting her thesis. She devised a final thesis project concept that ended up being the genesis of Garment Hub. After graduating, she decided to move forward with the concept to both pursue her dream, and help make a difference.
